Alpa Pre-Engineered Panel Systems Inc., a part of the Alpa Lumber Group, is a leading provider of pre-engineered walls and floors to GTA home builders. We work with a team of designers, engineers, and production staff to help create the communities we live in. We are currently growing our design team and looking for an experienced Panel Designer to add to our team in our Courtice location.
Summary:
In the Panel Designer role, you will provide accurate and competitive EWP designs while ensuring excellent customer service and support to our clients. You will be involved in exciting projects including the design, analysis and detailing of engineered floor and wall panels for residential projects. Roles & Responsibilities:
· Read, interpret and understand blueprints for residential projects to create designs, including detecting any errors or issues;
· Accurately produce floor and wall take offs, layouts, load development and beam designs using CAD software while considering design and material efficiency;
· Create 3D models and layouts;
· Create engineered floor and wall layouts for construction, permit processing and costing;
· Detail wood structural connections;
· Understand client design standards;
· Communicate with Engineers, Architects and Contractors regarding details and materials during the project;
· Audit designs before the final release to production to ensure there are no deficiencies;
· Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Extensive work experience (5 years +) within the Engineered Wood Product, Construction or light frame wood truss industries;
· Experience in Engineered Wood design including wall and floor panels and accessories;
· Strong experience of the engineering of wood I-joists and structural composite wood products;
· Experience with industry design software – Mitek, AutoCAD, BIM, Revit, etc.;
· Able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting client and project deadlines;
· Comprehensive knowledge of building and construction processes with it comes to wood structures in residential construction (single family, multi-family, etc.)
· Understanding of National, Canadian and local building codes;
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints;
· Advanced computer (MS Office) and math skills;
· Technical Diploma or engineering degree;
· Advanced communication skills in English (oral, written and comprehension);
· Self starter and able to work in a collaborative team environment;
· Professional and “can do” attitude!
